Summary:
This dramatized documentary series explores the lives of those who have either founded or helped develop individual orders of Western Christianity. It features St Benedict (Benedictines), St Bernard from Clairvaux (Cistercians), St Francis (Franciscans), St Dominic (Dominicans) and St Ignatius of Loyola (Jesuits). It also introduces a wider historical context in which these people lived and worked and attempts to define the influence of social developments on the biographies of founders of individual orders as well as their influence and personal contribution to the broadening of culture and thinking. The series includes interviews and contributions from the leading names of individual orders as well as from the most prominent experts on church history whose comments provide a succinct but competent illustration of the main characters and their time. The documentary segments were shot on authentic locations (France, Italy, Spain) and the acted segments on Croatian localities where the atmosphere corresponded to the period portrayed in each individual episode.
