Summary:
Croatian Radio and Televisions new series takes you back in time to the history of one of the greatest phenomena of Croatian and world history: the Republic of Dubrovnik. This beautiful Croatian city is known throughout the world, but how much do people actually know about its rich history? Showcased in many film and television projects, Dubrovnik has always provided a unique cinematic backdrop. The Republic series offers a new angle, making Dubrovnik its theme and featuring it in the leading role. Nearly a thousand people worked on the production of the series, hundreds of beautiful costumes were sewn, hundreds of historical interiors and exteriors were built using set construction and most advanced computer technology, ancient battles were staged, and all in order to offer viewers a valuable educational and artistic text to learn about the history of this jewel of Croatian and world history in the best possible way. Most eminent European historians participated in the series: British historian Dr Robin Harris, the author of a brilliant book on the history of Dubrovnik, David Abulafia (Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge), Kate Fleet (University of Cambridge), Maria Fusaro (University of Exeter), Dr Stephen Bowd (Old College, University of Edinburgh) and many others.
