Summary:
The musical documentary series ‘Our Time – Stories of Croatian Rock’, co-produced by Croatian Radiotelevision and the Croatian Music Institute, reveals how Croatian rock music came about and developed, focusing on key albums, authors, performers, and events from the 1950s to the end of the 20th century. The series takes us back in time to the last century, to the time of the first rock bands in Croatia and the first dance hall parties, from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. It tells of the first original rock song – Osmijeh by Grupa 220, as well as the creation of the band and their first album, Naši dani (en. ‘Our Time’), the first rock album in the former Yugoslavia, after which the series was named. It also reveals the story of the band Mi and the first appearance of Josipa Lisac, her meeting with Karlo Metikoš and their anthology album Dnevnik jedne ljubavi (en. ‘Diary of a Love’). Among others, it talks about the work of the bands Drugi Način and Aerodrom, as well as Bijelo Dugme, a band that, although not from Croatia, was discovered by Jugoton, the largest Croatian record label of the time.
