Summary:
In the region around the town of Ogulin, as well as the region of Kordun, there was a custom of selling children to work as servants and it persisted as late as the 1960. In Ogulinsko Zagorje and in the village of Lađevac (Kordun region) there was an assembly point where the parents would bring their children, from 7 to 14 years old, on the Day of St. George (April 23). The landowners would pay the parents some money or the payment would be in goods (a bag of flour, etc.). However, those who survived this in their childhood, now, from a distance, see it as a positive practice.
